By default when you choose "MultiFiles for specific time step" it generates a large single file that includes all of the files generated, however for the most part I wind up not using them and wind up going through and deleting them later on. I ran into this problem too and it looks (at least for me) to be directly related to the number of x and y tiles.

When I set it to higher than 12 VTM throws the error, but when I go into the registry and change them manually back to 12 or lower the program works normally.
